Projects

Since the Trust began, many projects have received help in different ways. For many years we collected surplus medicines and equipment that could be sent abroad or we bought medicines in England to send abroad. The cost of shipping and administration has become so expensive that we have recently decided to discontinue this practice. These days medicines and equipment are usually available for purchase and it seems better to make grants so that what is needed can be bought locally. We take care to assess and check on the requests that we respond to. We receive many more requests than we are able to help.

Over the years many projects have been helped and we mention a few as illustration.

BOLIVIA

We support Sister Sylvia who shares the life of the Chipaya people in the high Andes of Bolivia. Life is very hard at these altitudes with no roads or education and medical facilities. Families struggle and children suffer from malnutrition and lack of medical care. Our money helps with medical supplies and care, and funds other kinds of help. Recently we sent money to help the local people repair the small footbridges essential during the rainy season so people can tend their animals and access their land.

RWANDA

Sister Bridget has dedicated her life to Africa and particularly to Rwanda. Here people are trying to pick up the pieces after the horrific genocide. A hospital and clinic serve many rural villages. More than 40 small self help projects have been set up to enable people to be self sufficient. It is called ‘Forward Tomorrow’. Sister Bridget says,’We never send the poor away’. We have helped with the clinic and the projects. Everything is compounded with the unfolding tragedy of AIDS and HIV.

ECUADOR

Fr Edward Veasey is a Catholic priest from Scotland working in Ecuador. We have helped him build a medical centre. The economic situation in Latin America continues to deteriorate and the poorest suffer most. Fr Veasey and his parish have a centre which feeds many children with a good meal each day. We have been glad to help here too.

CALCUTTA

We continue to send help to Calcutta. Now we support CINI – Child in Need Institute caring for the health and well-being of mothers and young children. We also support SANTI, which battles with the scourge of TB.

KENYA

We support two projects in Kenya, helping to buy laboratory equipment in one rural clinic and assisting Father Tusuime in building another clinic.
